destiny 2
We are now less than 50 days away from the launch of lightfall, and I’m sure there’s bound to be a full court press of information relating to the upcoming expansion and subsequent season. But that’s the good news, and at some point I’m going to need Bungie to give me the bad news.
Bungie has said one thing very specifically, they are not releasing any more expansions going forward. This is after they released all of Destiny 2’s vanilla campaign content, two full DLCs, and the Forsaken expansion campaign. They said they want people to be able to play the “Light and Darkness” saga, which they believe begins with the Shadowkeep campaign, in full.
So that takes some things off the board. You can’t have the Shadowkeep campaign without the moon. You cannot have the Beyond Light campaign without Europe. You can’t have the Witch Queen campaign without Throne World. The Dreaming City was deliberately saved from destruction when Forsaken was vaulted. But that leaves a number of open questions that I think Bungie needs to answer soon. because they have not said it nothing is being saved from here, i.e. seasonal content is still going away. But are there exceptions? Things I want to know:
destiny 2
- Will PsiOps Battlegrounds or Heist Battlegrounds be saved and added to the Vanguard playlist, similar to what happened with Chosen Battlegrounds last year?
- Year 5’s best quest, Operation Seraph’s Shield, which appeared just a few weeks ago, has been deleted in another month and a half, or is there any chance to save it? (And what about the dog?)
- Are there large scale zone deletions this time around, with the main vulnerable areas appearing to be the EDZ, Nessus or the Cosmodrome?
- Will more Crucible maps be saved? I can’t imagine what the Gambit maps will be like, given that we’re already down to just four.
What I hope the future plan is for Bungie to reduce the content vault to only seasonal content going forward, but at the same time saving things within the saveable like battlegrounds to playlist or especially good exotic quests. I maintain that a priority should be for Bungie to figure out a way to get exotic quests like Whisper, Zero Hour, and Presage back into the Legends tab somehow, as it’s crazy to produce content this great and make it just… unplayable, forever, to save space. you literally you can not play the best missions in Destiny’s history now, and this is nonsense.
Bungie themselves seem to understand how much the community hates the content vault, so they’re trying to balance the technical need to do this by keeping what they can and not cutting as deep as they used to. I think the community can agree to do some appointments. As silly as it is to skip the Leviathan, bring the Leviathan back as Abandoned Leviathan and then bounce it again, I at least understand that it’s not serving much of a purpose and if you have to cut something, I understand. But hopefully we’ll at least stop this culling of old content and core zones and start seeing things returned. outside of the content vault. We just got a decently large chunk of Mars back with Season of the Seraph. Instead of skipping that bit again, I’d love to see everything back, including your old moves. That shouldn’t seem like the dream it potentially is, under this current system.
My guess is that the content vault will be one of the last things we’ve heard before Lightfall, but I think it would be best to start confirming what’s staying and going now.
