Hogwarts Legacy: An Exclusive Look at Video Game Art

Can’t do it for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme parks in Orlando or Hollywood soon? Don’t worry, fellow Muggles and Squibs! Warner Bros. Games has you covered with the imminent release of Hogwarts Legacythe highly anticipated video game that allows the player to feel like they are actually studying spells at the prestigious European school for young witches and wizards.

Just don’t expect to meet Harry or Voldemort as you walk through the torchlit corridors, because the story of this one takes place in the late 19th century. With that said, long-time Potterheads will still be able to visit a plethora of iconic locations from the books and films – be it the shops of Hogsmeade or the secret bathroom used by Hogwarts prefects. Remember: the password is “Pine Fresh”!

The first-of-its-kind title will be accompanied by a 252-page art book that chronicles the magical amount of detail needed to bring such an undertaking to life. On sale at Insight Editions next month (you can order a copy right here for $45 a piece), The Art and Creation of Hogwarts’ Legacy: Exploring the Unwritten Wizarding World was written by Jody Revenson and Michael Owen – both of whom sat front row in the game’s ever-evolving development process.

“During every day [of] working on it, more and more amazing works of art would arrive for us to see, characters would be refined and scenarios would be developed. It was a very emotional experience,” Revenson – who is no stranger to open the curtain of the Wizarding World – says SYFY WIRE. Oh, and speaking of which? We’ve given you an exclusive preview of the wonderful publication, which is rich in original illustrations (including the cover art).

“I’m definitely a detail nerd, with the philosophy that everything is important to the story – even the bathrooms!” adds Revenson. “There is so much intelligence in the names of the small towns and their residents, their wares and backstories. How could they not be included? Learning all about the teachers of the time, their relationships and their personalities is so important to your time at Hogwarts; the same with your colleagues and the beasts you encounter.”

Check out four unique spreads below, including a look at the book’s summary:

“The most fun was meeting the new characters and exploring the new environments within the missions,” explains Revenson. “I enjoyed ‘hanging out’ with the students (and most of the teachers) and finding new spells. The most challenging thing was when those characters were revised or those environments appeared or disappeared! But change is inevitable, whether in the game itself or writing about the game. And so we just accomplished our ‘mission’ of making sure the book was the best it could be.”

While the author is understandably hesitant to reveal previously unseen information Hogwarts Legacy reveals about the Wizarding World, she promises that “the new characters and environments encountered in Hogwarts Legacy fit perfectly into the history we know and the future we know. One of the most important aspects of any time spent in the Wizarding World is discovery, and who reading the book will discover how well thought out the game was.”

The Art and Creation of Hogwarts’ Legacy: Exploring the Unwritten Wizarding World goes on sale at Insight Editions Friday, February 10th – the same day the game hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions will launch on Tuesday, April 4th, while the Nintendo Switch version won’t be available until Tuesday, July 25th.
