The Internet has a resurgence with two crucial home-made explanations

It’s silly season, and therefore time to interrogate a bunch of your favorite Christmas classics in search of deleted scenes, plot holes, and wacky theories. Fortunately, the internet has had a resurgence home alone Explanations of Why Nobody Noticed Kevin McAllister (Macaulay Culkin) was not with the rest of his family when they left for Paris in holobobs.

Every time I watch this movie I find myself thinking, how the hell do you forget an entire child? I understand Kevin’s parents, Kate (Catherine O’Hara) and Peter (John Heard) has an absolute plethora of naughty kids, but still!

But both theories – or rather people watching the movie with a keen sense of observation that I clearly lack – help to explain the situation.

The first explanation comes from TikTok, where it has been circulating for several years. But I’ll be damned, I had never seen this simple explanation for Kevin being left behind before and I was absolutely shaken.

As seen in this clip from TikTok, Kevin’s father Peter opens the plane ticket with Kevin’s name on it in the trash can.

While some users chimed in to say that they’ve always seen the ticket being thrown in the trash, this was an absolute first for me.

TikTok comments point out that this explains why the parents don’t realize Kevin is missing – they have the correct number of tickets for the correct number of children.

It’s not like they went to the airport with a spare ticket and without a kid tagging along. I mean, it’s still pretty lax parenting, but it makes a little more sense.

But other people think that the plane ticket in the trash situation wasn’t so accidental.

As seen in a clip shared by Canadian broadcaster CP24, some people feel that Kevin’s dad not only purposely throws the ticket in the bin, but also hires the Wet Bandits(!) to kill Kevin(!!!).

@cp24breakingnews An easy-to-miss scene in a classic Christmas movie can make you see it in a whole new light. Sorry guys, but I think this one is a bit over the top, even for me.

Another classic theory is also making the rounds on TikTok. This one seems to have its origins in a Reddit post from three years ago.

The post in question claims that Kevin was left behind because of a miscounting when the family left for the airport.

“When they counted people for the trip, they said there were 17 people in total,” reads the Reddit post.

“An odd number between two vans means they will be split eight/nine. Since Kevin was missing, the two vans held eight people.

So both groups thought they were in the eight person van and didn’t realize Kevin was missing.

Some people on the internet were quick to argue that this explanation was pretty obvious. But then again, I just never considered that possibility before.

Combining these two useful explanations shows why Kev’s parents didn’t realize he was missing on the trip to the airport and why he wasn’t at the airport itself. Again, not that this justifies leaving your toddler at home alone.

just like these home alone details, TikTok also recently resurfaced this classic, absolutely bonkers love in truth deleted scene.

Look, is it really Christmas without a little festive film?
