Cloudflare publishes top internet trends for 2022

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates:– Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the security, performance and reliability company helping build a better Internet, today published its third annual report, exploring Internet insights, security trends and online services in 2022.

Some of the biggest highlights of 2022 include:

  • Google was the year’s most popular service, according to Cloudflare data. The search giant beat out Facebook (#2), Apple and TikTok (tied for #3), and YouTube (#5).
  • Facebook was the most popular social media service of 2022, followed by TikTok at #2. Instagram (#3) overtook Twitter (#4) in the Social Media category: the photo and video sharing app knocked Twitter out of #3 in August.
  • Worldwide internet traffic increased in late November with the start of the FIFA World Cup and holiday shoppers making Black Friday the busiest day online in 2022.
  • In 2022, more phishing emails originated in the United States than in the next 22 countries combined.
  • Iran has shut down the internet more than any other country with 60 blackouts observed across the internet this year, accounting for a third of all internet outages analyzed by Cloudflare.
